Inside Cellar 47: Pine Ridge’s Most Exclusive Tasting Experience
There is a moment during the Cellar 47 experience when Napa Valley feels very far away.
You leave the tasting room behind and follow a guide into the estate cave system. The sounds of Silverado Trail begin to fade. The temperature cools. Stone walls replace sunlight. Aging barrels line the corridor.
And then, 130 feet beneath the surface of our Stags Leap District estate, you arrive at Cellar 47.
Named for the 47 acres of estate vineyards Pine Ridge farms in the Stags Leap District, Cellar 47 is where some of our most limited wines are experienced in the place they were made—surrounded by the caves where they mature and the landscape that shaped them.
Quick Answer: What Is the Cellar 47 Experience at Pine Ridge?
Cellar 47 is Pine Ridge Vineyards’ most intimate tasting experience. Located 130 feet underground within the estate cave system, the 90-minute Cellar 47 Cave Tour & Tasting combines a guided exploration of the caves with a seated tasting of highly limited Stags Leap District estate Cabernet Sauvignons.
The experience is available to the public for $125 per person. Appellation Society members receive complimentary access based on membership level and enjoy preferred pricing on additional visits.
A Place Rooted in the Stags Leap District
Since 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards has called the Stags Leap District home.
Nestled beneath the dramatic palisades that define the appellation, our estate was founded on the belief that hillside vineyards could produce wines that captured both power and elegance. Today, Pine Ridge farms 160 acres across Napa Valley, including 47 estate acres in the Stags Leap District.
Those 47 acres are the inspiration behind Cellar 47.
The vineyards are planted on steep, terraced hillsides shaped by a diverse mix of soils ranging from gravelly loam to volcanic rhyolitic tuff. These growing conditions contribute to the structure, complexity, and age-worthiness that have become hallmarks of Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon.

The guided tour explores the environment where Pine Ridge wines age before release. Cool temperatures and quiet surroundings create ideal conditions for barrel maturation while offering visitors a perspective on winemaking that few tasting experiences can provide.
At the heart of the cave system sits Cellar 47 itself—a private lounge designed for focused exploration of the estate’s most limited wines.
Why Cave Aging Matters
The caves are more than a dramatic setting—they play an important role in how Pine Ridge wines evolve.
Deep underground, temperatures remain naturally cool and consistent throughout the year. This stable environment allows wines to age gradually in barrel, encouraging the slow integration of tannin, fruit, and oak while preserving freshness and balance.
For Cabernet Sauvignon, patience is essential. Time in barrel helps soften texture, build complexity, and reveal the layered character that defines wines from the Stags Leap District.
Walking through the caves offers a rare opportunity to see this process firsthand. Rows of aging barrels line the corridors, each quietly developing before the wines are eventually bottled and released.
By the time guests arrive at Cellar 47, they have already moved through the very place where the wines in their glass have spent months maturing. The experience creates a deeper connection between vineyard, cellar, and finished wine—one that is difficult to replicate anywhere else.

What Wines Are Poured at Cellar 47?
The tasting centers on highly allocated Stags Leap District estate Cabernet Sauvignons that showcase the character of Pine Ridge’s home appellation.
A recent example is the 2023 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine opens with aromas of graphite and slate layered with black cherry, huckleberry, and berry compote. Notes of fennel, vanilla bean, and cinnamon spice add complexity, while bold tannins carry through to a long finish marked by fresh black cherry and youthful structure.
Aged for 20 months in 75% French oak, the wine reflects the balance of power and elegance that has made the Stags Leap District one of Napa Valley’s most respected Cabernet-growing regions. Cellar-worthy for 10–15 years.
These wines are produced in limited quantities and are often experienced most fully in the place where they were grown, crafted, and aged.
