2021 Locked Horns Cabernet Sauvignon, 94 points, James Suckling
Perfectly situated to exhibit the attributes for which the region is prized, aromatics of wild blackberry jam and blueberry pie fill the nostrils alongside those of sage and jasmine. Rich and complex from start to finish, the round and sweet entry transitions to notes of brown sugar and Madagascar vanilla on the midpalate. The firm, yet softly layered tannin structure finishes with nuances of Amaretto and dark chocolate before leaving the most observant with the fresh flavors of ripe Rainier cherry.
2021 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, 95 points, James Suckling
This wine is a feast to the senses for any Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon enthusiast that lusts for an uber ripe rendition of this noble grape. Examples of this aesthetic would be the blackberry jam, black olive and pencil shaving nuances noted on the nose. These then transition into a mélange of flavors on the mid-palate from vanilla cream and toasted marshmallow to English Breakfast tea and blackcap raspberry. While a touch gritty upfront, the tannins plump up quickly on the midpalate and transition to a slightly drying finish that cleanses the palate in preparation for the next sip.
2021 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, 96 points, James Suckling
Born from vines that endure struggle, this wine emanates bright cassis, violet, and bramble notes. Rutherford’s signature cocoa powdered dust flavors meets fresh acidity, harmonizing its rounded entrance on the palate. Well-integrated tannins traverse a mocha mid-palate, leading to a cranberry-marshmallow finish subtly spiced with graphite and thyme.
2021 Carneros Cabernet Sauvignon, 96 points, James Suckling
This wine stands as a unique bridge between the allure of the Right Bank Bordeaux style of wines and the cherished fresh fruit character emblematic of Napa Valley. Exuding a captivating combination of raspberry coulis and fresh fennel fragrances reveals the cooler climate origins of the fruit. The palate is enlivened by a rich tapestry of flavors, where the essence of Bing cherry, pomegranate, and an inviting cola nuance intermingle. The wine’s finale is as expansive as it is profound, with a culmination of fine-grain tannins that stretch into infinite horizons, accompanied by a delicate hint of mocha.
