Since the 1930’s the Rutherford region has been recognized as a source of superlative Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. With estate vineyards totaling 61 acres within this single appellation, we make the most of the area’s well-drained gravel and loam soils, producing deeply fruited wines of outstanding balance and elegance.
The world-famous Rutherford AVA is home to three of our estate vineyards, Hidden Canyon, Rutherford Ridge and Manley Lane, totaling 61 acres from which the fruit for this bottling was sourced. Situated on the valley floor with fine loam soil and moderate temperatures, this region is renowned for historically producing some of the Napa Valley’s finest and most fruit-forward Cabernet Sauvignon.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
The 2010 vintage was cooler than usual during the growing season, but ended with a heat wave. As a result, the fruit for this wine was harvested at an optimal level of ripeness early to mid-October. Fermentation took place at a high temperature to ensure that maximum extraction was achieved before the wine was racked to 50% new French oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for a total of 18 months before bottling.
An abundant bouquet that highlights aromas of sweet black raspberry, fresh red currant and ripe strawberry amongst touches of clove, graham cracker and milk chocolate leaps from this deep garnet-black wine in the glass. Echoing the nose, the voluminous palate enters with red plum and succulent red raspberry fruits, closely followed by suggestions of brown sugar, toast and sweet oak and balanced by bright acidity and silky tannins on the creamy finish.
Exceptionally balanced and filled with lively fruit, this bottling would prove an excellent companion to a classic bistro dish like steak tartare with frites or even coq au vin over noodles. For a delightful cheese course, try pairing this wine with Midnight Moon, an aged goat’s milk cheese.
