Napa Valley 2010
Since our founding in 1978, we have proudly produced appellation Cabernets that showcase the unique character of the AVAs and our estate vineyards within them. This Cabernet Sauvignon, however, was crafted to embody the ultimate essence of Napa, sourcing from our multiple appellations throughout the valley.
VINEYARDS
The fruit for this vintage was chosen from several premier sites throughout the Napa Valley, mainly the Stags Leap District and Rutherford AVAs. The bright, ripe fruit and substantial mouthfeel that characterize this complex bottling are a direct result of the meticulous care and attention to detail paid by our vineyard workers to the vines.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
The 2010 vintage was cooler than usual during the growing season, but ended with a heat wave. As a result, our Cabernet was harvested at an optimal level of ripeness in mid-October. Fermentation took place at a high temperature to ensure that maximum extraction was achieved before the wine was racked to 35% new American oak and 65% 1-3 year-old French and American oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for a total of 18 months before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Deep garnet in color, this wine presents an effusive nose that teems with aromas of fresh black cherry, warm blackberry and red plum, intertwined with hints of brambly spice, fresh ground clove and vanilla bean. The palate leads smoothly with rich red raspberry, cherry and currant fruit flavors that meld lusciously into hints of creamy caramel, cocoa powder, ground espresso bean and subtle mint leaf beneath supple tannins on the lingering finish.
PAIRING
Fruit-forward and food-friendly as ever, this vintage of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon makes a versatile choice for pairing. It would be lovely served alongside many meals, from smoked beef brisket and grilled vegetables, to a vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries, to a seared, fennel-crusted ahi tuna steak and salad. Hard, aged gouda makes a classic cheese course with this wine as well.
