Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, 2009
Since the 1930’s the Rutherford region has been recognized as a source of superlative Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. With estate vineyards totaling 61 acres within this single appellation, we make the most of the area’s well-drained gravel and loam soils, producing deeply fruited wines of outstanding balance and elegance.
Vineyards
The world-famous Rutherford AVA is home to three of our estate vineyards, Hidden Canyon, Rutherford Ridge and Manley Lane, totaling 61 acres from which the fruit for this bottling was sourced. Situated on the valley floor with fine loam soil and moderate temperatures, this region is renowned for historically producing some of the Napa Valley’s finest and most fruit forward Cabernet Sauvignon.
Harvest & Winemaking
With steadily mild temperatures throughout the growing season, the 2009 vintage progressed very smoothly and the clusters ripened evenly. The berries were harvested late September through October and underwent our rigorous sorting process before crush. After fermentation was completed, the wine was transferred to 60% new French oak barrels for 18 months of aging prior to bottling in May 2011.
Tasting Notes
Rich red fruit notes of ripe raspberry, sweet red plum and candied cherry abound as the nose of this deep ruby wine opens, also revealing touches of pie crust and brown butter. An equally enticing palate follows, rushing with cassis and dried red cherry fruits, balanced by sweet vanilla, cinnamon toast and cedar, and finishing smoothly with fine, earthy tannins and a hint of creamy cocoa.
Pairing
With its striking depth and complexity, this wine would provide an excellent foil to a rich meal like stuffed veal witharugula salad. For a beautiful cheese course, this wine would pair perfectly with Toma, a sweet, semi-firm cow’s milk cheese from Italy.
