Tessitura Napa Valley, 2007
INAUGURAL RELEASE! Tessitura, Italian for "texture", is crafted from choice lots of estate-grown grapes, deftly interwoven for layers of rich and complex flavors.
Vineyards
Fruit was harvested from select estate vineyards in a handful of renowned appellations. With their distinct terroirs, each of these appellations constitutes a singular thread, that the winemaker has woven together to craft a finished wine that is far more than the sum of its parts.
Harvest & Winemaking
The 2007 vintage had many ups and downs, with an early, cool start and several heat waves throughout the growing season resulting in smaller bunches of small, intensely flavored berries harvested from late September to mid-October. The grapes were sorted with an intensive triple selection process before crushing. Maceration on the skins averaged 22 days extracting deep color and flavors. The wines were aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak before bottling in August 2009.
Tasting Notes
The Tessitura shines, from its bright purple-ruby hue to the multifaceted nose, flaunting aromas of sweet red cherry, currant and raspberry fruit with accents of hibiscus blossom, pink peppercorn and nutmeg. The palate is bright and lively, with silky tannins lending strength to flavors of cranberry, plum and cherry pie. The elegant finish slowly tapers off into subtle notes of creamy mocha and vanilla.
Food Pairing
The vibrant acidity and juicy fruit of Tessitura makes it an excellent foil to creamy risottos, scallops in gorgonzola sauce and buttery chicken Kiev. A little extra time in the cellar or an hour in the decanter allows richer notes to the fore, which will pair nicely with smoky grilled steak and vegetables and hearty pastas with meat sauce.
