Each vintage our production team has the opportunity to consider the fruits of the year’s harvest and create Contemplate, a blend that showcases the rarer Bordeaux varietals. Our winemaker, Michael Beaulac, and his team choose their favorite small lots to feature in this exclusive wine club blend each year. The result is a unique and captivating insight into the essence of the vintage.
A delightful bouquet of fresh black cherry, dark currant and
bramble berry, cloaked in tones of sweet cedar, charred oak and faint vanilla bean
emanates from the glass in this dark ruby wine. Sweet, intriguing flavors of briary
blackberry, lavender, white pepper and dark chocolate endure on the palate long into
the round finish, backed by firm tannins and balanced by bright acidity.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from our vineyards in Oakville.
Cabernet Franc is a late-ripening varietal, and this warmer region encourages the
development of complex flavors and a rich mouthfeel.
2014 was a consistently temperate growing
season in Napa Valley, with moderate temperatures and minimal rain in September,
allowing even ripening and yielding exquisite, balanced fruit. The fruit for this wine was
harvested at an optimal level of ripeness in early October. The berries were handharvested
at night, carefully sorted and destemmed to tank, where fermentation took
place. Then, the wine was racked to 50% new French oak barrels, where it was aged for
18 months prior to bottling.
Food Pairing Notes
With abundant flavors of its own, the 2014 Contemplate would be an
excellent partner to a sweet yet savory meal like duck confit with sour cherry sauce
or pizza with grilled sausages and figs. This wine would also make a delicious and
memorable cheese course when paired with Camembert, a soft and earthy cow’s milk
cheese from the Normandy region of France.
